Turn Up The Heat On Your Summer Digital Marketing Strategy

by Dawn Varga

June 28, 2023

Summer is here! Time is to implement a summer digital marketing strategy.

With summer upon us, it is a good time to revamp your current efforts and put into place fresh, new campaigns to target the summer consumer.

Here are a few suggestions on how to dial up the heat and increase consumer engagement this summer:

1. Create fun and festive content - Whether you are posting new content to your website, blog, creating email & text campaigns or social media posts, make sure it is filled with summer fun! Studies show that consumers respond well to light and lively content when they are enjoying summer activities. And don't forget to take advantage of summer holidays like Independence Day, Labor Day and Back To School, or even some of the silly summer holidays like World UFO Day (July 2nd) or Bow Tie Day (August 28th).

2. Retarget the looky-loos - Consumer tends to become more indecisive when temperatures soar and may not make a purchase on their first, second or even third visit to your website. That's where retargeting ads come in handy. Reach those potential customers who have viewed your ads or website previously and keep your business, products and services top of mind.

3. Up your mobile game - People are on the go during summer months, but they are still connected! Be sure to make your marketing campaigns and website mobile-friendly. Keep messaging short and sweet. Use text and video communication tools to share information during the sales process. Make it easy for consumers to connect with you and your business from their mobile devices.

4.Get social - People post more on social media during summer months because they are sharing the vacations and other activities they are enjoying with family and friends. And since consumers are spending more time on social media, your business should be sharing more too. Take advantage on an engaged audience by sharing the fun and festive content we discussed above. Use summer-themed hashtags, create summer offers, or hold a summer contest.

5 Content Marketing Ideas for July 2023

Article by Armando Roggio

Search engine optimizers sometimes refer to content marketing as a hamster wheel: It needs nonstop generating to keep traffic flowing and visitors engaged.

In July 2023, there are many topics to keep the wheel turning. These include national holidays — Canada Day on July 1 and U.S. Independence Day on July 4 — and unconventional selections such as co-hosting a podcast with an AI tool.

Content marketing is the act of creating, distributing, and promoting articles, videos, and the like to attract, engage, and retain customers. What follows are five content topics your business can use in July 2023.

Amazon Prime Day

At the time of writing, Amazon had not yet announced the dates for Prime Day, its annual sales event. But if history holds, the sale should happen sometime in July.

How your business uses content marketing should depend on whether it sells on the Amazon Marketplace.

For Amazon sellers, the content might feature Prime Day buying guides, podcasts discussing how your business prepares for Prime Day, or even product origin stories describing how your company developed its best-selling item.

Businesses that don’t sell on Amazon could address alternative shopping ideas, such as “The Best Products You Can’t Find on Amazon” or “Sustainability: Why the Store You Shop Matters.”

Elvis Presley

On July 5, 1954, Elvis Presley recorded his breakthrough hit “That’s All Right,” marking the start of his legendary music career.

Your company can tap into nostalgia and Presley’s cultural significance to create compelling content that resonates with your audience.

Here the key to content success is finding unique ways to connect your products or industry to Elvis or the music industry.

Blog titles could include:

  • “The King’s Influence: How Elvis Shaped the Fashion Industry”
  • “Rock and Roll Decor: Elvis-inspired Interior Design Ideas”
  • “Elvis-inspired Playlist: Music to Get Your Workout All Shook Up”

Imagine a company such as Gymshark (apparel) or Onnit (supplements) using that last idea.

4th of July Cake

View Recipe on ThePioneerWoman.com

Every patriotic party needs a flag cake!

Ingredients:

For the cake

  • 2 1/4 sticks unsatted butter, at room temperature, plus more for the pan
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 6 extra-large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 c. sour cream (not low-fat), at room temperature
  • 1 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 3 c. all-purpose flour, plus more for the pan
  • 1/3 c. cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt (use 3/4 teaspoon regular salt if kosher salt is not available)
  • 1 tsp. baking soda

For the icing

  • 1 1/2 lb. cream cheese (3 8-ounce packages, not low-fat), at room temperature
  • 1 lb. unsalted butter (4 sticks), at room temperature
  • 1 lb. confectioners' sugar, sifted
  • 1 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 2 half-pints blueberries
  • 3 half-pints raspberries

Directions:

  1. For the cake: Preheat the oven to 350˚. Grease and flour a 17-by-12 1/2-inch sheet cake pan. (Note: this recipe may be halved for a smaller pan, as this recipe feeds an army.)
  2. In a bowl with a mixer, mix the butter and sugar together on high speed until light and fluffy, about a minute or so. Add the eggs, two at a time. Mix after each addition. Add the sour cream and vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cornstarch, kosher salt and baking soda. Turn the mixer to low and gradually add the flour mixture to the butter/sugar mixture, one scoop at a time. Mix after every addition. Keep adding the flour mixture until just combined. Do not over mix!
  4. Pour the thick cake batter into the prepared pan. (It's much thicker than regular cake batters.) With a knife or offset spatula, spread the cake batter evenly over the pan.
  5. Bake until a toothpick comes out clean, 20 to 30 minutes. I baked mine for exactly 20 minutes, so you probably want to start checking then.
  6. For the the cream cheese icing: Add the cream cheese and butter to the bowl of a mixer. Whip to combine. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla. Mix until thoroughly combined, scraping the sides once during mixing.
  7. Put about ½ the frosting on the cake. Mark off the area of the stars with a toothpick. (No need to be proportionately accurate; just guesstimate.) Prepare a pastry bag with a large star tip and fill up to 2/3 with icing. Fold down both corners to keep icing from splurging out the top.
  8. Grip the folded-down end tightly under your fingertips and start squeezing two lines of frosting at the bottom of the cake. Make two rows of raspberries on the cake, then add another two lines of frosting.
  9. Keep repeating: two lines of frosting, two lines of raspberries, two lines of frosting, etc.
  10. Fill the square in the corner with a nice layer of blueberries. With the star tip, squeeze little dollops of frosting all over the blueberries to look like stars.
